Big data = Big IT = Big mistake
Most analytics projects fail. Based on conversations with partners who have been “doing BI” most of their lives, it seems like most (>90%) BI projects fail to deliver any business value. With all the hype around big data (and analytics in general) in the air, it was refreshing to see a perspective (from HBR) that highlights what such projects are ignoring: People.
The reality is that many people—including managers—are uncomfortable working with data. Any information-based initiative must acknowledge that. It must place users—the people who will create meaning from the information—at its heart. It should challenge how they do or do not use data in reaching conclusions and making decisions, urging them to rely on formal analysis instead of gut feel.
Net net: Please don’t treat analytics as just another IT project. Unless you like flushing your money down the toilet.
One of the key reason for failure of BI projects is management commitment to get all key resource on boarded from beginning till implementation. I totally agree unless we have people invested big data or similar investments will fail.
