State of the (consulting) union

The Economist has a timely article about the state of the consulting industry. Some interesting titbits:

  • McKinsey has 10% fewer consultants now (due to the downturn)
  • Consultants offering outsourced services, like IBM and Accenture, have also done well as cost pressures have driven other companies to use their services (no surprise here)
  • HR consulting hit the hardest with a 20% decline in Britian

I personally see a trend more towards fixed bid contracts (not a bad thing) with tougher negotiations. But the market seems to be definitely on the mend.
