Business model visualization

Business model generation is a newish book (at least to me!) that has a interesting spin on depicting how companies generate value.

This should be interesting to consultants (helping companies devise new models), VCs (helping understand a start-up’s proposed model) and strategists in large companies. The key strength of this book is built around the “Business Model Canvas” – a.k.a. the “HHT framework”. It allows one to see the whole business model in one fell swoop – from partners, to key capabilities, to customer segments etc.

The first section of the book does a great job of explaining current business models (e.g. Amazon, Nintendo etc) using this framework. This is fascinating and very well written. The latter parts of the book describe the process of creating a business model; this section of the book is less original and a little boring. The book itself is beautifully crafted (a great example of elegant design + an interesting topic). Well worth a quick spin.
