Strategy consulting in the real world
Nice easy read book on how consulting (in particular strategy consulting) works in the real world.
The book reads like a novel from the perspective of a MBA new hire on his first engagement working on a strategy for a company. For those of you looking to join a consulting organization, this should give you a pretty good perspective of what a typical engagement looks like. Some of the examples (late nights, lack of information, constant demands from partners/engagement leads) are bang on.
For experienced consultants, the more interesting parts may be the extensive references on the typical topics that come up in consulting engagements – working with team, managing up, working with clients, different aspects to a client problem etc. The list of references can be found here (Google Books).
