Digital disruption in retail

BCG has a newish (boy I’m behind in my reading) article on the pain the retail industry is experiencing as a result of digital. The article has some good points, but it a little too rambling for my taste. I did find the following “Follow the money” chart interesting.

Clearly ecommerce players are making a killing (and chiefly at the expense of electronics and office retailers). What they didn’t mention, is that ~50% of all retail sales are now influenced by the internet. I think the pain that retailers will need to go through to re-configure their business models for digital is just beginning.
